Work experience reflections

Journal Entry peac: 15/6/26

Today began like any other day at my work experience with Pro Fix. After a refreshing shower, I changed into my work clothes, ready to tackle the tasks ahead. I headed to the yard and caught a lift to the job site—Baskin Robbins, a new ice cream shop.

Upon arrival, I dove right into the work. My first task involved cleaning the freezer in the back. I meticulously scrubbed the walls and then used a plaster gun to secure the floor and make sure nothing came out, then rivet gun to secure screws, ensuring everything was in place. I also worked on the air conditioning unit, which required some adjustments to keep the environment cool and comfortable.

Once I finished with the freezer, I teamed up with the electrician or sparky to assist with some tasks in a couple of units at the Nickel. We focused on the TV antennas, which involved gluing screws with a plaster gun and zip-tying everything down for stability. It felt good to contribute to the installation and ensure everything was secure.

I wrapped up my day at the units around 4 PM, reflecting on the diverse tasks I completed. Each job provided a unique learning opportunity and helped me develop my skills further. I’m looking forward to what next week will bring.

Work Experience at Port Hedland Hotel

During my time at the Port Hedland Hotel, I was involved in routine maintenance checks on the laundry facilities, specifically focusing on the dryer and washing machine. Our primary objective was to ensure that all machines were functioning efficiently for the hotel’s operations.

Upon arriving, we inspected the drainage system of the washing machine to determine if it was the source of any issues. I examined the pipe where the water exits to confirm that there were no blockages. After verifying that the drainage was functioning properly, I turned my attention to the washing machine itself.

To address potential issues with water flow, I carefully unscrewed the filter located inside the washer. Cleaning the filters is a crucial step in maintaining the machine’s efficiency, as debris can often hinder performance. I completed this task quickly, ensuring that all components were clear and clean.

Overall, the job was completed efficiently, allowing us to wrap up our tasks in a timely manner. After finishing the maintenance, we returned to Karratha, satisfied with our work and the knowledge that the laundry facilities were back in optimal condition.

Date: 27/07/2026

On Monday, I worked with PEAC. My supervisor picked me up from home, and we travelled to Velocity Motel & Bistro to carry out repairs and maintenance on the HVAC system connected to the deep freezer.

When we arrived, we inspected the system and began troubleshooting the fault. Based on the symptoms and our initial checks, we suspected that the HVAC motor had a damaged or broken internal component, which was preventing it from operating correctly. We isolated the power supply to ensure the equipment was safe before removing the faulty motor. We then installed a replacement motor, making sure it was positioned securely and correctly aligned.

After fitting the new motor, we reconnected and rewired the electrical components according to the existing system configuration. We checked that all terminals and connections were secure and that there were no loose or incorrectly connected wires. Once the work was completed, we restored power to the system and carried out basic operational checks to confirm that the replacement motor was running correctly and that the HVAC system was functioning as expected.

We then cleaned the work area, packed away the tools, and made sure the equipment was left in a safe condition. My supervisor had a doctor's appointment later that day, so we finished earlier than usual. I knocked off at approximately 12:30 pm.
